Writing the Story Through My Readers Eyes

Filed under: Frank Remarks,On Writing — Frank Fiore @ 5:16 PM

Received another issue of David Farland’s Daily Kick in the Pants today.

In it, he said, “…the genius of a good writer is the ability to see their own stories through someone else’s eyes. This requires the writer to think symbolically, to get outside of his own head and look in.”

When I read that I said “Holy smoke! That’s what I do!”

When I write a scene, I imagine what it would look like on the big screen because I write my stories like movies. I follow the same pacing, surprising plot twists and parallel sub-plots. I ask myself in each scene, how would this look like on the big screen?

Read my books. And see if you agree.
